Melville Coach an All-Star
Monday, 30 June 2008
shane brown 1.jpgMelville reserves coach Shane Brown will live out a dream when he runs onto Telstra Dome next Tuesday (July 1) as part of the annual EJ Whitten Legends game between Victoria and the All Stars.

The 43-year-old was one of two winners from a national competition aimed at finding a participant for each of the Victorian and All Star teams.

The 100-game player, who injured his back in 1987 and was told in 1991 that he’d never play football again (before kicking 100 goals the next season), will be coached by Neale Daniher and play alongside the likes of game legends Richard Champion, Mark Bickley and Mark Ricciuto.

McCarrey excited about Shark’s future
Friday, 20 June 2008

By Bridget Lacy
mccarey andrew.jpgEast Fremantle’s own version of the modern swingman, Andrew McCarrey, is the favourite for the Lynn Medal at this stage in the season. He has recently returned from a successful campaign for WA with hopes his young Sharks can continue to improve with more wins in the second half of the season.

McCarrey said being able to contribute to WA’s big win over Queensland in Townsville was a great experience and now he was focused on the Shark’s ongoing improvement. “We haven’t had much success in terms of wins and losses but we’re a young team with great room for improvement and I think we have gotten the closest of any team to Subiaco so hopefully we’ll fulfil that potential in the second half of the year,” McCarrey said. “The group of guys coming through now gel really well and I’m just so excited about the times ahead if we can stick together.”

Why do you play football?

screamer.jpgThat is the central question behind an on-line youth survey that has been launched by the West Australian Football Commission.

By logging onto www.perceptionmapping.com/wafcyouthmap children aged up to 17 who play football can anonymously answer questions that will enable WA Football’s governing body to directly find out what motivates, irks and excites its youth-aged participants.

The questions in the 10-minute survey cover issues from playing, training, parent involvement to the administration of the game.

East Fremantle’s new development officer is a familiar face and name to many Sharks’ supporters.

Liam Anthony joined the East Fremantle senior side in 2006 and has now strengthened his links to the club by becoming the development officer last month. When Stephanie Walding left her post for a position with the East Perth Football Club, Anthony’s study in sport and recreation management at Notre Dame University made him a great fit for the position.

East Fremantle district manager Troy Kirkham said Anthony’s sport’s management background and his involvement in East Fremantle clinics meant they knew what they were getting. “It’s also great to have such a direct link between our development team and the senior side,” Mr Kirkham said.
