The East Fremantle District has launched our new Player Transition - Youth Football to Senior Football - The Importance of Building Relationships booklet. The booklet, that encourages junior and senior community clubs to work closer together to have a significant impact on player retention, outlines a 'menu of ideas' that can have a positive impact on players making the key transitional step to senior community football.
All community clubs (both junior and senior) within the East Fremantle District have been provided with copies of the booklet, and the district will be monitoring the outcomes from clubs implementing key strategies outlined within the document. It is hoped that the relationships between clubs will improve as they work together to retain as many players in football as we possibly can.
East Fremantle District Manager Troy Kirkham, indicates that the booklet "came about through reviewing the WAFC survey 'Why youth stop playing football'. One of the key findings was that a lack of a football pathway was impacting on the retention of youth in the game. After discussing this with the clubs in the district it was evident that we needed to 'bring together' all the ideas of how we can best assist players in making the transition from Youth to Senior football".
The East Fremantle District, which is piloting the Transition Booklet in 2008, will be seeking feedback in regard to the effectiveness of the document for clubs and if the strategies within the booklet are having an impact on retention numbers, then the WA Football Commission will look to implement similar booklets across all districts in 2009 and beyond.
The East Fremantle District would like to think the West Australian Football Commission and the RAC for fully funding this project in 2008. We would also like to thank Warren Nel, Manager Community Development, WAFC, for his support in assisting with the funding for the Transition Booklet.
