Last Friday, August 22nd, the East Fremantle Football Club held its annual year 8/9 School Girls Football Carnival at All Saints College.
Teams competed from All Saints College (2), Winthrop Baptist College (2), Mandurah Catholic College, Rehoboth Christian College and Morley SHS in a day which was competitive, but most importantly fun for all the girls involved.
The carnival started at 10.00am with the seven teams competing in a round robin format. Games consisted of two twelve minute halves with a three minute break for half time.
Troy Kirkham, the EFFC District Manager, said “the carnival was a great opportunity for girls to play competitive football, which they don’t usually have the opportunity to do.”
“Female football is growing rapidly within our industry, and this carnival will provide a great starting point for the girls to follow a pathway into the Western Australian Women’s football League’, Kirkham added.
This is the third year that the carnival had been run at All Saints College. Oliver Beath the School Physical Education teacher has been fantastic with supporting Female Football and was again great with the organisation of this year’s carnival.
Mandurah Catholic College were the eventual winners of the carnival after being undefeated for the day. Morley were a close second, with every side winning at least one game.
Best players for each of the sides were:
· Mandurah Catholic College: Kara Giumelli
· Rehoboth Christian College: Sarah Colligan
· Morley SHS: Emily Wilson
· All Saints College1: Philipa Seth
· All Saints College 2: Briana Preimesberger
· Winthrop Baptist College 1: Allison Hillman
· Winthrop Baptist College 2: Alex Robinson
