5 New Life Members Inducted

life members 2009.jpg At the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 the Club awarded Life Membership to 5 worthy recipients who have served the Club well for many years with all being voted unanimously to receive Life Membership.

Inducted into this illustrious group of members were David Stark, Jeff & Jelena Hillman, Paul Bennett and John Pietroniro.

David Stark has held several positions with the Club commencing as a trainer from 1982 – 1999, and Interchange Steward in 2000 and 2001, helped out in the property room from 2002 until 2007 and from 2008 until the present time has prepared fruit for the players. He also looked after combined 13’s and 15’s sides from 1997 to 2002.

 Jeff & Jelena Hillman are the head statisticians for the Club and have held this position since 1991 when Jeff commenced as Assistant Statistician.  Jelena joined him in 1993 and they have continued in this position with unbroken service for 18 years along with raising a young family.   These positions are completely voluntary and are extremely important and have assisted various League and Reserves coaches in the match day running. This can be a thankless and unnoticed role which is vitally important for the coaching staff.

Paul Bennett played for the Club from 1973 – 1976 playing 9 League games, 52 Reserves games and 12 Colts games.  He was the Reserves Coach in 1997 as well as Assistant League Coach and Selector.  From 1998 – 2000 he was the League runner and Selector working with coaches Tony Micale and Wayne Blackwell.  From 2001 until the present time he has been the Chairman of Selectors and a member of the Match Committee working with coaches Earl Spalding, Rod Lester-Smith, Dave Dunbar and Shane Woewodin.

John Pietroniro played with the Club from 1974 – 1975 playing 25 Reserves games and 47 Colts Games. He was a selector from 1987 – 1988 as well as being the Colts Runner.  From 1992 until 2000 he held the positions of Selector, Boardman Reserves and League, game day Stats role and from 2005 until the present time has a match day coaching box role co-ordinating stats for the League Team.

The Club extends their congratulations to each of these Life Members and we look forward to their continued involvement with the mighty Sharks for many years to come.
